Writing a book harder than it looks

I blame every single movie where someone gets published or is a famous writer for making me think this was going to be easy.

So in only two months time I wrote a complete, 67,000 word manuscript.

AWESOME, where can I buy it?

Whoa, Whoa, I said manuscript, not book. It's not published yet.

So go and get it published.

*sigh* It's not as easy as Jo made it look on Little Women. So first , I wrote it yes, that's fine then I had to sit and edit the hell out of it, and have about 4 differant people read it for grammar and flow.

Okay now onto publishers?

WRONG again. Then I have to sit and come up with query letters and synopsis to send to agents.

Why an agent?

Most publishers wont even look at your work unless a certified agent has presented it to them.

So whose your agent?

*Sigh* I don't have one of those either. 16 queries out, 4 rejections so far. It kills me a little inside and at the same time makes me stronger. I know the story is good, I mean I've read it about 20 times now and I know there is nothing else with a voice like this novel out in book stores right now...

A friend told me, "It just takes that one agent to believe in you."

Well lets hope that comes sooner rather than later.

  1. I'm thinking that maybe you should post excerpts of the book on your website. Make them available and MAKE people fall in love with it so they can fight your corner! At the moment, for me it sounds intriguing but I don't know a lot about the story. Also, have you heard of LULU? (http://www.lulu.com/) You can self publish your book!

Looking forward to reading about your literary journey (now that I've discovered you) and fingers crossed for you hon!

You should leave me a comment. It would probably make me smile and then I will probably comment back. Unless you are a spambot. Then I will probably just ignore you.
