WIP Wednesday (With a preview of HOW TO DATE AN ALIEN)

So I didn't really get the editing done that I wanted to last night after freaking out about our water not working and of course the elections...

But the first two chapters are done for my second draft, meeting with my lovely crit partner tonight, and hopefully getting water soon.

So without further ado, please enjoy the first page of HOW TO DATE AN ALIEN.  Feel free to comment what you like, dislike, if you'd read more or if you hate aliens...

If you would have told me, at the beginning of that summer, that I would come face to face with death all because of a Romeo and Juliet romance, I would have never believed you. But it's not like that summer went at all like I had planned in the first place.

The Columbia recruiter sat across from me, her dark bushy eyebrows rising as high as they could go while she stared down at my application. "You don't have any extra-circular activities?"

I shrugged, wishing that I could just disappear in those uncomfortable orange plastic chairs that they make you sit in, in the guidance counselor's office. "I figured that my grades were more important than being on the track team or something like that."

"I see…" She pressed her lips together, scribbling something down on her yellow notepad.

This was my shot to get into my dream college, I had to think fast. I blurted out the only thing I could think of. "But I'm doing an internship with Circe Operations Center this summer!"

"Really?" For the first time during the interview she seemed interested in what I had to say, putting down her pen as she leaned in, and focused her stare in my direction.

“Yeah, it’s something pretty classified, you know with all of the government work they do, but I’m sure I’ll have plenty of information to include on my admissions essay.”

Great, I hadn’t even been to Circe, and I had barely spoken to my dad since him and my mom divorced when he was transferred seven years ago.

“Well I look forward to reading it.”

And that is how I ended up sitting next to my dad, in his Air Force issued jeep, as we took that long drive through the Arizona desert.

  2. Like the first page. Sometimes the craziest things in life start in such unexpected ways and I like that you show that.

You should leave me a comment. It would probably make me smile and then I will probably comment back. Unless you are a spambot. Then I will probably just ignore you.
