If I were a character in Kiersten White's PARANORMALCY series...

Over here Kiersten White is having a contest for a signed ARC of the third book in her Paranormalcy trilogy.

I know, I know, it has been awhile since I've done some sort of contest thing, but I figured this one was perfect..

If I were in Kiersten White's Paranormalcy series, the paranormal character I would be is...

A unicorn!

You thought I would be an alien, didn't you?  There actually aren't any aliens in this series by Kiersten, but I actually do believe there are some hidden throughout the book. (Oh come on, like you didn't KNOW the gym teacher was from Venus!)

But since aliens are real, I would have to go with the paranormal unicorn. Why?

WHY THE HECK NOT?

They poop rainbows, their horns are the only thing that can kill an evil goblin, and they always have awesome hair.

What paranormal creature would you be? Did you KNOW that the gym teacher AND the History teacher are aliens?

Name a character

While I work on revisions to Life, Love, & Lemons and How to Break up with an Alien I am also drafting Alien book #3. (Title will be announced this summer).

But I need all of your help!

There is a new girl in book three, a new character that is VERY important to the story line.

Here is what you need to know about her:

She is eighteen
Enviornmentally concious
Short, cropped hair
Vegan
prefers the company of women

I actually picture her to kind of look like this.

Here is the deal:  You come up with a name for this character and I give you an Ecopy of How to Date an Alien and an E-ARC of Life, Love, & Lemons and an E-ARC of How to Break up with an Alien (you wont get this one until May, but it will be worth your while)

So come on come up with some names!

Olivia has chosen a winner!

Okay...so actually Olivia didn't pick the winner.  She just whined that I was on the Ipad and not paying attention to her, so I had to wait until her morning nap on Saturday (and after all the bugs were worked out of blogger) to pick a winner.

And the winner is...

Nicole Settle!

HOOOORAAAAAAAAY

*Throws Confetti*

Thanks for all who entered, Nicole I will be emailing you, and everyone should still pick up a copy of this book anyways and check out my review of the second book in the series, Queen of the Dead next week!

Love don't come easy

Yes, it's a cheesy song and, yes, I've been gone for awhile.  But in celebration of yesterday being mother's day (and my return to try and blog again) I thought I would share with everyone something that I've learned from my daughter....the things that you love don't come easy.

In October of 2009 I left work very sick and found out that I had Polycystic ovary syndrome.  My gynecologist put me on medication and told me that I might have trouble conceiving.  I was engaged and was devastated that after getting married that I could possibly not have children.  I could have given up at that point, wallowed in my own self pity and started looking at adopting, but I didn't.  Instead I lost weight, took medication and did what I needed to do increase my chances of having a child (even though I thought they were slim.)

And then low and behold I did get pregnant.  Yeah...those people that say shows like Teen Mom are making people want to get pregnant, all of these teen girls need to just hang out with a pregnant woman before they decide they want a child fashion accessory.  I was tired, nauseous, and the size of a small house-- I just wanted the baby out of me and then she came.

I love my daughter, but the first two weeks of motherhood are HARD.  You're sore, tired, and both you and baby are getting used to each other so nothing comes easy...I honestly didn't think I could do it.

But now my daughter is almost a month old and we're both still alive, so it's definitely a plus.

What does this have to do with writing?  Or anything really?  Well the other day I got an answer back from an agent that has had my manuscript for awhile.  She said my writing was good, but the story was just too light for her.  I could have cried, I could have said it was time to give up, but then my wise husband said something.  "The more that you work for something the more that you appreciate it."

Which is SO true!  I had to work to have our daughter, I had to work hard those first few weeks of her life, and I've been working SO hard to get published the past two years.  If you really love something then you'll work for it.  Publication may not come easy, but if you love something then it's worth working for.

What hasn't come easy for you?  What makes you want to push farther?  Doesn't my daughter look like she is innocent in that picture?  (She actually cried her entire newborn photo session...those two weeks can kill you.)  And have you entered my contest for a signed copy of The Ghost and the Goth?  (Ends Friday!)

Pay it Forward: Fangirl style

So the lovely Shelli is running a Pay it Forward contest on her blog in which we have to write a post about someone who gave back to us, whether in writing or just in life in general.

Today I regale you with a writer girlmance that started over the summer when a down on her luck writer hadn't even started writing about aliens yet, and was dealing with the woes of rejection from her first manuscript.

Yes, I do look like a lolcat when I complain or cry about writing.  But, anywhoo... I was browsing through Querytracker.net success stories when a familiar name came up "Ketch."  (Or the great Kelsey Ketch)  I had seen here query some of the same agents as me, and even receive some of the same rejections.  So I read her success story and was BLOWN away by her perserverence after sending out 199 queries until she found the right agent.  Then the Fangirl in me came out...

I wanted to talk to her.  To see how she had such perserverance and I just wanted to hear her story.  So I lurked on Querytracker for awhile until I finally got the courage to message her and ask for an interview.  Which she TOTALLY said yes to and raised my meagerly followers rating that I had at the time.  (She is a pirate rockstar!)  But our story didn't end there...

We became Twitter friends.  Sending eachother differant messages and posting on eachothers blogs whenever we could.  But then came the day when I realized how much the Fangirl needed her pirate.  I was finishing up my second draft of HOW TO DATE AN ALIEN and realized that it needed more action, but for some reason my brain couldn't get that to my fingers and I needed help. So I asked Kelsey if she could maybe take a look at my manuscript and give me some ideas.

This is where the epic Pirate V. Alien debate was born!  She returned the notes for my manuscript within WEEKS and had some awesome suggestions!  BUT she didn't stop there.  If I ever had a question or just needed help getting my brain to function, she was there to help!  I have no idea how I would have written so many action scenes without her help.  Or knew that one girl could have so many alien jokes....

So today the Fangirl pays it forward to salute the awesome pirateness of Kelsey Ketch and hopes that I can someday have her mad pirate skills!

(Note:  Sorry Kelsey, my picture of you wouldn't load, so I thought this was a good likeness...)

THE DUFF

Usually this would be a “Teaser Tuesday” or a “Tell All Tuesday” segment, but today is all about THE DUFF.

Kody Keplinger is running a contest for her debut novel THE DUFF over on her blog http://kodymekellkeplinger.blogspot.com/

You should enter, I know I did.

Why should you enter?

Well if you haven’t already ready my Fangirl Friday (insert link here) in which I interviewed her, then wouldn’t know how much I’ve Fangirled out over this book.

The concept drew me in IMMEDIATELY, (DUFF stands for Designated Ugly Fat Friend) and is about a DUFF who starts a secret relationship with the popular boy that gave her said nickname.

The book comes out September 7th…well at least I thought it did, but when I went with my husband to get a sports magazine at Barnes and Noble I SAW IT, IN THE WILD!

I literally squealed and then my husband looked at me to see if I was alright. I then grabbed the book and smooshed it in his face. “THIS ISN’T SUPPOSED TO BE OUT TILL SEPTEMBER.”

He shook his head and went over to the computer books section. While his pregnant wife stood in front of the YA section reading the first chapter of THE DUFF. Let me tell you it is SO mind boggling good that I wanted to take it home, put it in a pair of footie jammies and have it take a nap with me!

So you bought it?

NO. My reasonable husband looked at me and said, “Didn’t you just get ten new books for your birthday?”

Maybe.

“When you finish those you can buy another book. I’ll even let you buy it when we go meet Kiersten White at Anderson’s book store in September.”

FINE.

Thus, I am entering this contest and thought hey maybe I’ll even give my blog followers a chance to win their own copy when my Blogfest contest starts September 9th. (Along with books from other AMAZING Fangirl authors).

So…enter her contest to and go FANGIRL OUT.

Xoxo,

The Punching Bag

My Paranormalcy ARC contest entry

After a lot of hard work to get this to work, let us hope that this link works.
60 second commercial

I wrote the script and recorded it with some of my friends in my kitchen at home.  It received an honorable mention in the contest, but don't worry, I'll still be getting a copy of the book and be meeting Kiersten in September while she is doing a book signing in Naperville.

MY FIRST CONTEST, TWEET FEST

And the moment you've all been waiting for...MY FIRST CONTEST...

I didn't know what to call it, so we shall call it "Tweet Fest."

First the rules:

You must be following me on Twitter.
I would LOVE if you were following this blog as well, but I know that alot of people are over at Wordpress or Live Journal and don't want to switch, SO.  If you are following this blog your name will be entered twice.

I'm not exactlly up to 100 followers yet, but this contest will run from June 20th and end on July 20th at 12:00 am central standard time, so hopefully I should have 100 followers by then!  If somehow I reach 100 followers PLUS 50 blog followers I will add a fourth prize.

Here are the prizes.

1.)  Epic Award winner Laurie Larsen's book "The Chronicles of Casey V" autographed, plus if you are a writer she will give you a first chapter critique!
2.)  Autographed copy of "Through The Garden Gates" a collection of four short romance stories and autographed by Carrie Lofty.
3.)  Glee Season 1, Volume 1, the music

A fourth prize will be announced if and when I get 100 followers on Twitter and 50 blog followers.

How am I going to pick the winners?  The old fashion way...I put your names in a basket and my husband draws them out!

How do you enter?  Well I can't figure out how to do that whole creative thing where you enter your information on the blog and it goes into some MAGICAL place, so instead I'm going to count it by advertising this post on your Twitter feed.  All you have to do is give a shout out to my contest on Twitter, make sure to @mrsmaganvee, and that's IT.

Spread the word!

The hiatus is over!

So I'm back from Sicily! It was definitely a beautiful country but I am glad to be back to air conditioning and tap water.

Since I like lists and I'm still suffering from jet lag...I'm just going to list what's going on, what's up and coming, and maybe some Sicily info.

*MY PAPER HEART has come back from my editor. Not actually that much to work on, but it's probably going to take me awhile.
*Eight more followers and my blog give away will be here!
*My husband informed me that he will NOT read a book I write until it's the equal to THE HUNGER GAMES, but he would like me to become a best selling author so that he can retire at 52.
*I am looking for a critique partner. I want someone that writes and also enjoys YA/Chick-Lit romance. Books that I have enjoyed reading include: A match made in high school, A perfect Chemistry, The Georgia Nicholson series, and Just Listen. I'm okay with some fantasy, but it's limited. I liked The Hunger Games, Twilight, and Stackhouse, but I have to feel a sort of realistic element to it. If you are interested you may know where to find me.
*Interview with Author/Agent Mandy Hubbard is coming up on this blog get excited!
*I ate canolis that were filled with gelato in Italy and it is clearly the reason that my jeans do not fit me.
*I'm not sure what else to say, BUT if we're facebook friends you can check out the honeymoon pictures!

Break in the hiatus

So were on earth has Miss Bee been?

Miss Bee has become Mrs. Vee!

Now I say that it's just a break in the hiatus, but yes the hiatus is still in force.  I will be leaving on the honeymoon soon (here I come Sicily), but I just wanted to put a little post here to tell you all I'm still here.

And here are a couple of notes of interest.

I have 81 Twitter followers, which means I'm closer to 100.

So here's the deal, once I have 100 followers there will be a contest that could involve Season 1, volume 1 of GLEE.

But wait there's more!

I don't want to give too many details or jinx anything, but (please pray) if I do get the job I interviewed for, in Washington, I will officilaly be a professional writer and to celebrate will have another contest for all those aspiring writers!

Now to keep you all entertained while I go back to watching british teen comedies and packing for the honeymoon...here are WEDDING PICTURES.
We were all supposed to look and only I did.

Our cake was delicious!

With four of my bridesmaids, love em!

We stopped for fastfood before the reception

And even if you don't follow the blog, we'll still dance the night away!

Sorry for not updating!

Okay, sorry it's been awhile. I have the following things going on:

1.) 25 days till my wedding
2.) Applying for new jobs
3.) Working on a new project at work
4.) 30,000 words into a new work in progress
5.) Lots and lots of traveling.

Plus my internet has been on the fritz so I've been busy.

For those of you who didn't know I have won Mandy' Hubbard's mega contest! http://www.mandyhubbard.com/

We will be having a lovely chat sometime about why my mother never got me a Ken doll and how that's what I really wanted to win instead of a phone call from an auther/agent.

Okay truth be told I'm super stoked. We have exchanged a couple of e-mails back and forth and I think she's super cool an don't tell anyone, but I plan on querying her some day as an agent (shhhhhh!)

I will also have some interviews coming up (Hey if you have a geek to glam story I'm all ears!) and (drum roll please)...

I will be having a contest!

When I get to 100 followers on Twitter or 50 followers on this blog (whichever comes first) I will be having a massive give away!

With what may you ask? Oh just you wait...

(Really meaning that it's been simmering in my head and I'll be calling in some favors.)

So yes, pimp out the blog, pimp out my twitter and if you're really lucky I may even someday talk about my new WIP that contains: emo boys, catholic school girls, and lemons :)

Thursday, March 18, 2010

Pssst...wanna win free stuff?

No...I'm not having a contest sorry 7 followers. I actually don't have anything to offer except insurance advice. But my favorite aussie YA writer, Steph Bowe, sure does!
